The Inspector Alert v2, by International Medcom, among the most sensitive pocket Geiger counter available, offers a digital readout on a crisp, clear, easy-to-read LCD display, as shown in these pictures. The readout is displayed also with a red count light and audible beep (play this sound file), providing instant indications of the radiation level.
This model is also built around a very large , pancake-style Geiger-Mueller tube, with a diameter of 45 mm (1.75 in), increasing the efficiency of radioactivity detection, and offering excellent sensitivity to low levels of Alpha and Beta, in addition to normal Gamma and X-ray detection. See picture at left. This feature makes the Inspector suitable for applications requiring higher levels of sensitivity such as checking food for radioactive contamination, subject to certain qualifications - click on the link.
The Inspector Alert is in part named for its user-settable Audible Alert. You can see the controls on the top panel of the unit (right).
When the Mode switch on the front of the instrument is set to Total/Timer, you can engage an adjustable timer to set sampling periods of 1 minute, 10 minutes, or 1 hour, up to 24 hours. See the photo at left. This is an especially useful feature for establishing a background count, or for low level radiation detection.
This unit also has an output port to record counts on a computer or data logger, as shown in the picture below. Select the navigation button above or click on this link for more on Data Output and Software. This port can alternatively be used for audio output through earphones. An external Calibration Input port is also located on the side of the instrument.
The Inspector Alert also comes with a padded nylon carrying case (left) with belt loop.
The Inspector Alert also comes with perhaps the best Operation Manual of any Geiger counter in our selection - in printed, booklet form, and very user friendly and thorough.
The Inspector Alert is among the most popular Geiger counter within our selection. If you want a Pocket Geiger Counter with ultra sensitivity, user-adjustable audible alert, a timer and/or data port, and prefer a digital readout versus an analog meter, we recommend this unit.
This item typically ships out within 1 business day.

IMI Inspector Alert IA- V2
Completely satisfied with the quality of IMI Inspector Alert IA-V2 and with the delivery times (US-Europe transport). I notice that the device does not work with a 9V battery, as indicated in the specifications on this site, but with a 1.5V alkaline battery. It is a better choice.

Save me from drinking radioactive milk.
When first got my geiger counter I was still using my old one. It was losing its accuracy. I had been very lucky so far with milk because it comes from local dairies. I run a BnB and sometimes they leave food. Last time they left lactose free milk. I was intrigued and wanted to try it. I took a geiger counter reading off of it. It was over a hundred siverts! I did not drink the milk.

works as advertized
very handy and easy to operate

Reliable and Easy to Undestand
One of the best Geiger counters to understand how to operate. The "pancake" style sensor is worth the extra price in having. A true workhorse.
-
Accurate and easy to operate.
No complicated menus to decipher in learning to operate this Geiger counter. I like the fact it has a "pancake" style sensor for more accurate readings. I purchased form GeigerCounters.com. No problems with shipping and delivery. Quality product. Recommended.

IMI Inspector Alert
Truly the "gold standard" of mid-range Geiger counters. A wealth of options for hobbyists and mid-level pros alike. A quality instrument well worth its price. Be sure to purchase the Extreme Boot to protect the pancake GM tube. Good quality regular belt case may come free with unit. NOTE!!! Pg. 12 of my manual, under "The Utility Menu" tells you "To activate the Utility Menu, hold down the + button on the end panel while you turn on the IMI Inspector Alert." SHOULD READ ..." Hold down the + and - buttons on the end panel while you turn on the IMI Inspector Alert!" Happy nuclides!!!
